I've often heard children say, "There's nothing to do today". I beg to differ. I'd like to inspire you to do something. Anything. Read. Bake. Hike. Fish. Plant. Sail. Climb. Play. Reach. Move. Laugh. Dream; and take time to sit with me on The Old Granite Step.

Finding the littlest Christmas tree.

One recent cold morning when it was snowing lightly, we took a

walk out among the Christmas trees we had planted several years ago as seedlings.  It was a search for a little tree that would decorate the dining room.
We chose to dig the tree up so that we could plant it at our next house.  A special token from this land that we love.
It was early enough in the season so that the ground hadn't frozen yet.
 This tree seemed just right.
Being careful to dig up all of the roots, we put the tree in the pot for transplanting.
 Perfect.
Wrapped in burlap and decorated with tiny lights and ornaments, the tree is exactly what we were hoping for.
On a frigid night when the temperature was below zero, the littlest Christmas tree warms our hearts and our home.
